Custom Crutches was set up by Andy & Lynn in 2005, to give other disabled users an opportunity to purchase a quality, comfortable and stylish alternative to the common, ugly, clinical looking, grey NHS style crutches. After purchasing a genuine pair of black Kowsky crutches for Lynn while on holiday in Germany, people back home remarked on how stylish and quiet they were. They now no longer say "what's wrong with you" - but "I like your crutches". They don't shout out "I'm disabled".
Lynn suffers from multiple sclerosis and relied on crutches herself, so she knew the difference between a quality and a cheap pair. She no longer felt quite so disabled, and was proud of her stylish black crutches. She called them her "Stealth" crutches because of their colour and the fact they they are silent - they don't make that horrible clicking noise you get with UK crutches.
"Custom Crutches" was so successful, that it became increasingly difficult for Lynn & Andy (who were both now retired), to give the business the time and attention that was required. In late 2006, "Custom Crutches" was transferred to A S Mobility.
